“… seek not to change the world, but choose to change your mind about the world.” (ACIM,T-21.in.1:7) Explore one of the most talked-about A Course in Miracles quotes: “The script is written.”(W-158.4:3) You do not have control over the script, but you do have control over your state of mind. Healing is of the mind.

If the script is written, does that mean that you can not change it? Really, the only substantial change that you can make regarding perception is a shift in mind. It is a shift from a linear perspective to a simultaneous perspective. Look at the beliefs you assume to be true when you ask to change the script. There is a belief that you exist in linear time. But you can question this belief. You can shift into simultaneous time. You can shift your mind.

When you perceive things happening in your life, it seems that there are images moving around outside of you. But is there an inside and an outside? Every image is in your mind. You are tempted to make it real. Temptation, Jesus teaches in ACIM, is the desire for some things in your dream to be real; to have real existence. “What is temptation but a wish to make illusions real?” (T-30.VIII.3). Yet everything is mind! None of the forms you see with the body’s eyes exist outside of your mind.

You made everything that your perceive with the body’s five senses in order to imagine yourself separate from God. The mind is reminded of this through many A Course in Miracles quotes, including, “Everything you perceive as the outside world is merely your attempt to maintain your ego identification,” (T-12.III.7) and,  “Do not believe it (the world) is outside of yourself.” (T-12.III.9)

The script is written, and it is playing out as images and senses in your mind. It is a game of separation. But it does not matter what the deceived mind has made up in a make-believe reality. A make-believe reality could never effect true reality—just like children playing war with G.I. Joe toys does not affect the safety or well-being of the child holding the toy figure.

The mind and action of the G.I. Joe toy is controlled by the child’s mind, and that link could never be dissolved, because it is only that link that gives the G.I. Joe “life.” This is the same as saying that you are always connected to Source, not matter what you seem to play in a make-believe reality. Your connection gives you life. Because you are experiencing something, you have awareness, you are connected. Jesus teaches, “for if you could really separate yourself from the Mind of God, you would die.” (T-12.111.8) Just as the G.I. Joe is an extension of the child, so you are an extension of God.

The Son of God always has the ability to choose to make a different decision about the images he sees. You can choose to make them real, or see them as illusions. You can choose to play in linear time or be, exist, in a different way.

“It is almost like if you were playing a game. Children play with toys, and it starts to get really intense; the toys are fighting and there’s this big battle going on … At any point you can just stop.”

The decision is in the mind. You have created a seeming outside world because you needed to project out the things that you did not want inside of you.  This creates a world made up of things you did not want; a world made of seeming conflict. This world represents the conflict within you. This conflict is within your mind, and when you see it there you can heal it. All healing is of the mind.

The projected world is chaotic and you do not control it. But when you see that it is all you mind, you can control your state of mind. See from a new perspective. Shift your mind. See with the Holy Spirit and look on a forgiven world. The script is written, and is in the past. You can watch it happening just like watching a movie; know that it is past. You are watching the past. You are forgiving the past. In this way, you have shifted yourself from linear time into a new experience of awareness. In this way, you feel peace.
