A very important question to ask is, “Am I happy?” But this is not about happy outcomes. The ideal of the “Svensson family” in Sweden is comparable to the “American Dream” in the United States. People-pleasing is used to protect the concept of the Svensson Family (the concept of the Svensson family means to have the “good stuff”: Volvo, summer-house, dog, and 2.5 children).

The ego wants you to have an ideal in the world so that you can achieve it. These ideals are like a cosmic fig leaf, covering over the separation and belief in guilt and shame.

This world is a world of specialness and the ego set these artificial standards, ideals, and preferences, including the idea of “private parts.” Guilt around the body is just conditioned private thoughts that are projected out onto a world, where ideals and taboos become the norm for society.
