David Hoffmeister shares about “expression sessions.” In our communities, we encourage expression of our unconscious patterns and thoughts. Rather than fearing and repressing dark thoughts, we hold the space of love and acceptance for them. In this spacious non-judgment, the burden is lifted and healing takes place through the Holy Spirit. The point is to get in touch with emotions, not to give advice or attempt to teach. David Hoffmeister recounts a parable of healing around sexuality.
Forgiveness is commonly seen as forgiving others for what they did. “A Course in Miracles” teaches the opposite: Forgive your brother for what he has not done. Real forgiveness is an emptying of the consciousness of all its contents and coming into the stillness that is always here. The final lesson of forgiveness is pure innocence; the dream of guilt the ego made is seen as false, and your true Identity as Perfect Love is recognized.
The Awakening process is humbling until you reach the state of complete non-judgment: “I do not know what this is and I will not use my past learning to judge it. I am going to accept it as it is.” Pristine innocence. Forgiveness is only necessary when there has been judgment. David Hoffmeister tells the story of being humbled as he took the journey of using the ACIM daily lessons. The floor seems to drop out from beneath you.
What would happen to future goals and ambitions if you realized that the future is actually the past? As “A Course in Miracles” teaches, “This world was over long ago.” (T-28.I.1:6) When psychics read the future, they are actually reading the past because the future is past as well. As long as the mind is holding on to linear time, the prayer of the heart cannot be completely answered. But when we realize that the peace of God is all we want, all future desires are washed away, leaving the mind perfectly content in the present moment!
As you watch your thoughts and judgments, you can feel small. It is freeing to realize that you are not the thinker of those thoughts. This realization frees you from identification with your thoughts. Your mind is full of impostor thoughts trying to convince you that you are not really you. Your real thoughts are those you think with God.
The more you make major steps forward in a loving way, the more the ego rises up in defense. It’s like two steps forward, one step back. Just watch the one step back, the attack thoughts. The ego backlash can seem very dark. It’s the same old pattern. Don’t draw any conclusions. Then find a pick-up, a reminder, such as, “Dream softly of your sinless brother.” (T-27.VII.15:1) You have never been unfairly treated; that was just a misperception. Don’t allow yourself to keep falling for defenses, for drama, or for games that would distract you.
Linger not in time. Time is an illusion. You are not meant to live your life guarding against fearful outcomes. It is the ego that would hold you, guilty, in time. You will never be innocent as a human being. You are guilty in time, but not in eternity. And you are spirit. You never really incarnated. The Holy Spirit shows you that there is no time and would not have you linger in it.
It is easy to love and it is hard to hate. Explore this ACIM healing reminder: Love is your resting state, while hate takes effort. You have to actually judge, which is not in your nature, in order to hate. Love is natural. It is who you are. Therefore, all situations can only have one outcome: an experience of love. This is why getting married or breaking up is the same thing: a call for love. It is simply a time for healing for everyone involved. It is natural to love in all instances. It’s hard for you to hate or even have a grievance. So you might as well surrender the mind to God by giving up silly human identities.
You cannot BUT be at the right place at the right time. If you could always remember this, there would never be the experience of stress. Like the song shared in this video says, “be gentle with yourself.” We often beat ourselves up for not being “as spiritual as we should be,” but to the Spirit, we are Perfect as our Christ Self. The dream character we believe ourselves to be is not real and can have no effect on our God-created Self. As “A Course in Miracles” says, “You are at home in God, dreaming of exile but perfectly capable of awakening to reality.” (T-10.I.2:1) Awareness of dreaming brings a state of pure contentment, for illusions are recognized AS illusions.
