A retreat participant shares about her experiences and David speaks about what real love is, giving the movie, Solaris, as an example. We replay the past until we let forgiveness show us each other as we are. “Though lovers be lost, love shall not. And death shall have no dominion.” (Dylan Thomas, And Death Shall Have No Dominion)
Special Relationship
Love and Relationship, Love Has No Object
In this video, David speaks on love and relationship. What does it mean to love? The ego’s definition of love is very different from the Spirit’s definition. While the ego can use love to say, “I love my country,” this is objectifying love, and therefore, not it. By attaching it to an object, we break the definition of love! Love has no object. Love is abstract. When we say “I love” and then put something after it, that’s not love. Most of the things we think we love in this world are idols that cover over true love. Love is a state of acceptance.
The Context of Special Relationships
The context of all relationships is egoic. All relationships start special. The Spirit can work with all things. The Holy Spirit uses your special relationships and when truth is reintroduced into them, they are used to purify the mind.
It’s Your Lesson
When confronted with difficult people and difficult situations, it is helpful to remember “It’s your lesson.” Part of the problem is situational thinking. You can never bring peace into situations. God is abstract love and light and does not create situations. Truth is Oneness and situations are the illusion. We need to hand everything over to the Spirit. These are not people, these are thoughts. If there seems to be a nagging thought in your mind that doesn’t seem to go away, it’s because you don’t want it to go away. There is a sick attraction to it.
Letting Go of Specialness
Specialness is all we’ve known, and the painful part is exposing it. There is seemingly a lot of heartbreak in this unconscious belief in loss. But as you go through it and get deeper into your purpose, you realize you will only be content with a happiness that is everlasting, that won’t go away. Having the constant purpose of forgiveness will unify your perception and stabilize your emotions. You have to go through the darkness to the light. When that intense emotion of specialness is coming up, and you look at it so you can release it, it really has a different purpose.
Romantic Love and Forgiveness
The ego makes up the story of romance, bodies falling in love and living happily ever after. The real happiness is to get to the happy dream and God will take the final step. The happy dream is a world of non-judgment. The ego’s version always ends in death.
Using Relationships for Healing (Part 2)
Can you hear a call for love in your partner? Open to the one mind’s call for love. When you connect your irritations to thoughts in your mind, your relationship becomes a path to healing. Be in touch with your feelings and be willing to talk about them. When you shift from attack to love, love is extended and comes back to you, drawing witnesses to love. It just takes willingness to practice. Don’t let the ego dissuade you.
Using Relationships for Healing (Part 1)
The special relationship is a futile attempt to complete your self by adding another self. But completion can only be found within your mind. Your relationship mirrors what is in your mind. Does it serve the purpose of projection and blame? Or do you use it to help you identify your own feelings, thoughts, and beliefs so you can turn them over to the Holy Spirit?
Romantic Relationships vs. Holy Relationships
When we try to compare romantic relationships vs. holy relationships, we have to be willing to expose everything and be true to ourselves. Romantic relationships are based on mutual need-fulfillment, on the “getting” mechanism. It keeps us in a closed state of mind, cut off from the greater love. Holy relationships are undefined, guided, and collaborative. Personal differences are set aside. They are dedicated to a higher purpose and are intensely joyful.
Romance Transformed
Romance in relationships is a rung on the ladder on the way to holy relationship and the holy instant. Romantic love is transformed to a higher love.
