In order to have peace of mind, we have to raise up the ego beliefs and be free of them. Sexuality is the basic belief in needs which is all part of the perception of being a human being. As these needs are fulfilled on a regular basis the mind can be raised up into and advanced higher order of needs and that would be self-actualization. Sexual desire is a distorted miracle impulse, and is actually a gentle reminder, to see that you are being called back to God.
Sex and Sexuality
Sexual Repression & Promiscuity
The Spirit will unwind our mind from all the sexual repression and denial that has gone on, and it will use symbols in a highly individualized way depending on each person’s patterns. For example, one who has been very sexually promiscuous in the past may very well be Guided to be celibate for a time. On the other hand, one who has repressed their sexuality may be Guided to start having more sexual experiences which undo old ideas about what sexuality means. In either case…
Expression Sessions
David Hoffmeister shares about “expression sessions.” In our communities, we encourage expression of our unconscious patterns and thoughts. Rather than fearing and repressing dark thoughts, we hold the space of love and acceptance for them. In this spacious non-judgment, the burden is lifted and healing takes place through the Holy Spirit. The point is to get in touch with emotions, not to give advice or attempt to teach. David Hoffmeister recounts a parable of healing around sexuality.
Distorted Miracle Impulse
David answers questions about pain and pleasure. He shares that every desire of this world is a distorted impulse for the experience of our connection with God.
What Is Success?
What is success? You may have specific ideas about what success would look like in your life. Is it built on a concept like the “American Dream,” or some other artificial standard? These societal ideas about the “success” are like a cosmic fig leaf, covering over the separation and belief in guilt and shame. There is no need to cover anything up. There is nothing to hide.
Is Sex Wrong?
Is sex wrong? Distorted miracle impulses like sexuality are seen through the ego’s prism of lack. The ego is always judging: is this wrong or right? Good or bad? Moral or immoral? But no sexuality is condemned. Jesus is not concerned with morality and ethical beliefs, which vary widely between cultures. Allow the Holy Spirit to reach you where you are concerning sexuality. It is highly individualized.
Icons, Images, and Identities
Icons, images, and identities such as Jesus and Buddha are held very personally in the separated mind. Even these universal metaphors need to be released from the limited ways in which we think of them so that we are not offended by another’s identifications, pictures, or associations with them. Have you ever felt embarrassed about discussing Jesus in public? Have you ever felt afraid to curse, as if you might upset an anthropomorphous god?
Distractions Retranslated
Everything can be seen in a different way. Everything can be reinterpreted. Even distractions? Yes, even distractions! Things that seem to be distractions when used by the ego can be turned around in the mind. Give distractions to the Spirit. The Spirit can use these distractions for your own Awakening.
Everything you seem to see in form is a symbol in the dream. David Hoffmeister discusses specifics: smoking, drinking, movies, music. The ego can use a symbol like a movie or a cigarette to divert the attention of your mind. These symbols are not cause for guilt or self-criticism. They are simply symbols; reinterpreted they are seen as calls for Love.
Communal Relationships
Using “A Course in Miracles” in relationships as a mind training program dissolves the unconscious mind. Ultimately, one is left with a complete awareness of what is in the mind and how to forgive what opposes Peace. When “A Course in Miracles” is practiced in a community setting, there is a great speed-up in this unconscious dissolving. To have a relationship in community coupled with the openness of communal living is a recipe for a lightning-fast directness. Happy Awakening!
Ego’s Purpose for Dating and Relationships
David Hoffmeister explains the ego’s purpose for dating and relationships as spoken about in “A Course in Miracles.” The ego has needs and wants, expects to get something, and is selective in what it presents.
