Pure oneness comes from being fully committed to the Spirit no matter what. Should you commit to a relationship that has darkness? You commit to go through the darkness to the Light. Helen Schucman and Bill Thetford had a testy relationship. Spirit uses all kinds of assignments. There has to be some sense of attraction, of purpose. In the Course, Jesus says the teaching/learning balance is perfect in lifelong relationship assignments. Spirit uses the body for communication, leading ultimately to communion with the One.
The purpose of the ego is death. It has no good aspects, no source and no healing purpose. Unplug from it. The world is a projection of guilt, hatred, and anger. Decide that you want to heal, and Spirit will help you see differently. Love has the power to reinterpret everything you perceive! This world is error. The Correction, Atonement, is that the separation never happened. An experience of pure love will come that will end your doubting. This is the reason for happiness. You are not responsible for the error, but only for accepting the correction. Stop projecting the error onto the world; that’s the way you keep it. On the other hand, when you forgive it, you free yourself and the world.
Hold no graven images before the Lord. Spirit has already handled these images. Salvation is already accomplished. But when we try to string the images together and put them on a timeline—that is when we make idols. We compare ourselves to other persons or we compare our present experience to a “better experience” we think we’ve had in the past, or to a long-gone mystical experience we wish to get back. Give these idols over to Spirit and let your mind be rinsed in a “Jesus Christ rinse-cycle.”
The ACIM teaching that “the script is written” seems to have an aspect of destiny to it. You are destined to wake up. The story is false and you are to accept your divinity instead. You can then begin to develop the feeling that God has created you perfect and innocent. Free will is your will in Heaven. Yet we need to be convinced of this, and an attachment to the past requires us to have guidance in where to go and what to do. This can’t be glossed over. The emphasis in the statement, “the script is written,” is on the word “written,” which is in the past tense.
David Hoffmeister responds to a question about vanity and pride and how to deal with wanting to be recognized and/or to be in the spotlight. The important question is always, “what is the purpose?” You are here to experience the constancy of divine Mind. You won’t find it in trying to change your behavior or in self-improvement. Those all still involve pride, trying to come up with a better self. But God created us perfect. You don’t have to prove your worthiness. You are already perfect. Simply trust and you will be carried through to the experience of your perfect purity and innocence!
What is my identity? Who am I? How do I define myself? Maybe you’ve had the feeling that Neo had in the movie “The Matrix,” that there is a splinter in your mind driving you crazy. It is a deep-down feeling that something is not right. It makes you question your self-concept. Anxiety and discomfort comes with having a split mind. People try to feel better by changing things out in the world. They try to see if they can feel free by giving away all of their things, living a life of renunciation and simplicity. It doesn’t matter what you do in form. It is not the possessions that are the problem, it is the belief in possessions that is the problem! It is an identity crisis in the mind.
In this video, David Hoffmeister gives us an invitation into the mystical experience. Your true responsibility is not to judge anything that is happening in form. We learn to value presence and devotion rather than behavior. We want to live our lives with such devotion that we let all concerns of this world fade away. The ego’s identity depends on doing. It would be gone completely if there was no doer, and that’s exactly what happens. You remain as God created you. That’s the key.
Freedom is only in mind. What does that mean for sexual relationships? Minds can join, bodies cannot. This is the proof that the body does not exist at all. You cannot achieve anything with the body. Therefore, seek not outside yourself for you will fail and you will weep each time an idol falls. Even companionship points out that you believe you are alone unless you are with another body. Companionship is a defense against the truth. Am I going to use the mirroring for emptying my mind from everything I believe? For there is the one true purpose in which things are used in the most helpful way.
What is all this rage about? The rage that comes up when we really seriously begin our mind-watching is not personal. It is the collective ego raising its ugly head in its last defense against God; against Truth. You can let all that self-hatred up and it will not kill you! Let all that rage up and see what’s underneath. Surprisingly, Light and Love is the aftermath of uncovering all this rage that seems so overwhelming at first.
