Is storytelling good or bad? The ego made up all the stories, and will use storytelling to justify emotions and to reinforce the personality identity. Yet storytelling can also be used by the Spirit to heal and bless. The real question to ask is, “What is the point, the purpose, of the story?” Just as Jesus only told stories that had a clear point and purpose to them, so too should we be equally mindful as to why we are telling a story.
Idols
Living in the Sacred
David Hoffmeister speaks to a group in Newcastle, Australia, and shares that our presence is sacred, though no individual person, place, or thing is sacred. David continues with the idea of true giving, which knows no lack.
The Trap of Self-Improvement
“A Course in Miracles” (ACIM) is a powerful pointer towards no-dual awareness. As ACIM teaches, the ego wants to keep its existence in place in your mind. To do this, it comes up with concepts of an improved “you,” and even with concepts of an “enlightened you.” Learn to watch these thoughts without reacting to them. Learn to see the false as false, and to be the authentic spirit that you already are and always have been.
Religious Beliefs Updated
There was no fall. God does not punish, test, or judge. He does not watch from a distance. He extends unconditional love and welcome. God is not concerned with what you do or don’t do. There is no sacrifice or asceticism. It is not about bringing the light into the darkness or saving the world. It is about mind training, love, and being inspired by Spirit.
The Lord Is My Shepherd
When you decide upon the form of what you want, you loose the understanding of its purpose. Happiness does not come from wanting. Wanting and desiring comes from lack. In a state of perfect Oneness, there are no wants or desires because it is perfect fulfillment.
Love and Relationship, Love Has No Object
In this video, David speaks on love and relationship. What does it mean to love? The ego’s definition of love is very different from the Spirit’s definition. While the ego can use love to say, “I love my country,” this is objectifying love, and therefore, not it. By attaching it to an object, we break the definition of love! Love has no object. Love is abstract. When we say “I love” and then put something after it, that’s not love. Most of the things we think we love in this world are idols that cover over true love. Love is a state of acceptance.
Feelings of Unworthiness
You have to be willing to be wrong about everything; expose it and trust you will be embraced. Let the self-concept crumble. You may hesitate to connect. Do it. Spill the beans. Unconditional love is there and will wash it away. Feelings of unworthiness are buried, held deep in the mind. Healing occurs when they are exposed into awareness. Through “A Course in Miracles,” Jesus reminds you that you are worthy of love and that the love is there when things crumble. ACIM points you towards your true identity: a love beyond this world. You are so worthy of love.
Devotion
The Holy Spirit is not a form. Devotion is not directed to a teacher or image. Give each day to the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit for the miracle of experiencing perfect equality with everyone you meet. Giving yourself over to the practice of the ACIM lessons can be a devotion. Pray and follow guidance. God is not a personality. The way to worship God is to practice forgiveness and be as God created you. Be peaceful. See your Self beyond the body.
Letting Go of the Attraction to Death
The Holy Spirit is here to undo the faulty perception of the world and give you a new way to look at the world. When you start to follow your inner calling, you start to draw forth witnesses to the love inside of you. You will have a new purpose that will lead you to happiness. You are pulling your mind away from the ego. The goal of the Spirit is Awakening and the goal of the ego is sleep. These two goals don’t have any meeting point. You can’t serve two masters. All you are called to do is to follow your calling.
What Is Prayer and Desire?
What is prayer? Prayer is the desire of your heart. Because the sleeping mind wants idols, you can’t help but begin by praying for specifics, for idols. This is actually the prayer to have a better past. Look at your motivation for prayer. As you move higher up the ladder of prayer, you clear the altar of your heart of every desire except the desire for God. Don’t skip over this step. At the top of the ladder the prayer becomes: Let me accept myself exactly as I am. How to pray is the thought addressed in “The Song of Prayer.” The mind asleep will pray for specifics and as the mind raises up in its prayer to God, the answer to “why pray?” becomes more and more apparent as all prayers are answered.
