The world of duality has no reality. You did not make yourself and you do not create your own reality. God is the creator of Reality. You have no control over the world. Surrender your efforts to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
“No” is an absolutely essential word in the vocabulary of the Holy Spirit. It is not helpful to get into bargaining in relationships, constantly compromising, people-pleasing in order to be liked. This reinforces the idea of “my way” and “your way.” When you tune in to guidance and prompts you can confidently say “no.” No’s from the Holy Spirit are firm no’s: “No, but thank you for asking.”
Here is a handy decision-making mechanism: how many decisions are based on fear of consequences? Imagine if love were your only motivator. Ask, “What am I doing this for?” The fear motive is the insatiable desire to get. Let God direct all your doing. The ego thinks you need to get the job, the wife/husband, the house, the kids, etc. Ask the Holy Spirit for the real purpose of this particular decision. Do you want freedom, intimacy, love, peace? Perhaps you think you have to do a lot of things to get them. Follow Spirit/intuition every instant instead. “A Course in Miracles” is like a sharp blade that burrows down into your mind, healing it.
We are often tempted to choose where it’s not really possible. Most of the choices we make in this world are of the same order, and the questions we typically ask make no sense in Reality. Choices become easier when we follow the Holy Spirit (Peace); we will feel in harmony and flow with life. Ask only one question in any situation: “What is it for?” That’s very different from the ego saying, “What are the pros and cons here?” A mind in turmoil is not an inspired place from which to make decisions.
In slowly unwinding us out of the illusion of separation, the Holy Spirit uses everything to mirror back to us what we are repressing. This is what is holding the illusion in place. As we release what was repressed, we’re carried higher and higher into Love.
There is no group; it’s just a metaphor. There is one Voice. Two who are deeply attuned can hear the same thing at the same time. The guidance is important, not the form. Trust the Holy Spirit’s guidance, listen to it and follow it.
The Holy Spirit works with the mind where it believes it is. In the beginning, there seems to be a deep fear of joining. The ego looks at joining with our brothers as a way to get something. As we open to what is given and guided by Holy Spirit, the fear and resistance is washed away and our joining becomes one of what can I give, instead of what can I get.
So much of the time, we as humans get hung up by too many options. When you are happy, you get a lot of invitations. People love to be around you. Instead of being confused and overwhelmed, this is an opportunity to remember to connect with Spirit. “What would You have me do? Where would You have me go? What would You have me say, and to whom?” (W-71.9:3-5) are questions you could ask. This is a time for true inner guidance and connection to the Voice of wisdom. David talks about all the places he was guided to visit when he first began to travel to ACIM classes all over the U.S., all the while listening inwardly for directions. Very gradually, it seemed as though that Inner Voice became the voice of Jesus.
We not only project the body, we then project upon the body. We do this with cars and hang our identity on them. Once we take our steps to the realization that all is divinely given, we will realize our worth lies in nothing of this world.
A Course in Miracles is designed to get you in touch with the Holy Spirit, your intuition, your higher power. It takes time to learn to hear the Holy Spirit consistently. The whole Course is about hearing the Voice for God. The formula for Awakening? Listen and follow. The deeper you go into this, the more you will hear.
