Interdependency is assumed to be normal and necessary at every level of the human experience, from interpersonal to international. But, in truth, it’s an ego substitute for the oneness of Spirit which is our fundamental, quantum reality. Human collaboration will never set us free from the human condition. True collaboration comes from following your heart and your intuition, and for this to be possible, there must be a shift in perception that sees there is nothing outside of you and that all minds are inherently interconnected.
God-Dependence
Divine Providence
Lesson 50 of A Course in Miracles: “I am sustained by the Love of God.” In that lesson, Jesus tells us that, “In this world, you believe you are sustained by everything but God.” By following the Holy Spirit’s prompts we begin to trust that we will be divinely provided for in every circumstance.
Becoming God-Dependent
Is there a danger in becoming too God-dependent? There is a seeming danger of becoming dependent on a concept of God. To be truly God dependent is just to be dependent on the present moment. The present moment is our gateway back to eternity.
2008 Kentucky Retreat
In this “A Course in Miracles” (ACIM) retreat at the end of summer of 2008, David discusses some of the deepest themes in the teachings and application of the principles of ACIM: judgment and guidance. What is judgment, and how does the Holy Spirit use discernment to lead the mind to its escape from specifics and back to Heaven?
I Will Step Back and Let Him Lead the Way
In response to a question about how to respond when there is apparent ego attack and resistance directed at oneself, David speaks about his experience learning that what is needed is to step back and let Holy Spirit lead the way, and surrendering to releasing all judgement of who needed help. The ego is like a steel screw wound into oak with a power screwdriver. Hammer, pliers, etc. will not work to get this screw out. It has to be unwound the way it went in. When you join your mind with the Holy Spirit, that screw will come out and Holy Spirit will gently guide how to unwind from obligations that have been set up by the ego. It may be slow to start with but the unwinding is certain. We all are sustained by the Love of God and have just forgotten it.
Live in Divine Providence
Although the world tries to teach you otherwise, it is possible to live completely in divine providence. Lesson 50 of “A Course in Miracles” is “I am sustained by the Love of God.” (W-50) In that lesson, Jesus tells us that “In this world, you believe you are sustained by everything but God.” (W-50.1:2) By following the Holy Spirit’s prompts, we begin to trust that we will be divinely provided for in every circumstance.
God Dependency or Autonomy?
What we learn from “A Course in Miracles” is that all beliefs are false. One belief, forgiveness, is the answer that takes us beyond the world. We become God-dependent and everything is given. When we experience difficulty with studying “A Course in Miracles,” it is the ego that experiences the struggle. Jesus teaches that ACIM is easy because it is leading to a natural state of mind. By practicing mind training, in spite of ego resistance, we undo our individuality and autonomy. It is all or nothing.
Spiritual Self-Concept
When you get into spirituality, the ego wants to make a career out of it, to make and maintain a spiritual self-concept. When you identify with that illusion, you will defend it. This is with anything, without exception, anything in the world that you place value in; this is an identification delusion. When you are upset about anything, it is this ego belief system’s littleness-identification fearing the light, projecting the upset out onto the world, forgetting it has done so, and then blaming the projection. The root of insanity lies here.
Autonomy
Autonomy is a more subtle form of specialness. God creates and creation is extension. Spirit creates Spirit. This is what Jesus calls true autonomy. What counts as autonomy in this world is independence, which is a false sense of autonomy. The spiritual path leads to the realization that “I Am-ness” is so more vast than we can imagine. There are many praises of autonomy in Western culture and great fear can arise around the idea of losing personal independence. However, both personal identity and collective identity are false constructs. Complete God-dependence is a feeling of trust and being completely taken care of without any risk.
Feelings of Unworthiness
You have to be willing to be wrong about everything; expose it and trust you will be embraced. Let the self-concept crumble. You may hesitate to connect. Do it. Spill the beans. Unconditional love is there and will wash it away. Feelings of unworthiness are buried, held deep in the mind. Healing occurs when they are exposed into awareness. Through “A Course in Miracles,” Jesus reminds you that you are worthy of love and that the love is there when things crumble. ACIM points you towards your true identity: a love beyond this world. You are so worthy of love.
