If the body was a puppet, then whatever purpose the puppet is given decides who is the puppet master. Either the ego or the Holy Spirit holds the crossbow. It all boils down to purpose.
David Hoffmeister shares the wisdom of a state of mind some call Enlightenment. He speaks at a retreat in Mallorca, Spain and reveals that perception is the projection of an inward condition. The body and brain and world and feelings are all projections of thoughts, and everything begins and ends in consciousness. The mind is literally teaching itself and this teaching is of the mind and not the bodies. Everything that seems to be an external cause is only an unreal effect.
In response to a man who asks about fear of public speaking, David says that as you open up to Spirit’s purpose, you experience that the only function of the body is to let the Voice of the Holy Spirit speak through it. Fear is overcome through exposing your unconscious thoughts and beliefs. As you align with God, you will find yourself speaking in public naturally.
My life was based on fear of consequences. In the late 1980s, I tried to overcome my fears by going into the woods and fasting. The ego laughed at me. I realized I needed mind training. The Holy Spirit told me to read the “I Need Do Nothing” section of “A Course in Miracles” and choose the holy relationship. Spirit told me that He wanted to speak through me. So I went out to gatherings and let Him communicate through me with people in holy encounters. Now my mind is still and the communication is involuntary and spontaneous.
Pain is a selective memory. We are learning from the Holy Spirit that memory is an ability we have made up. It’s common to think of memory in terms of being in the past, and that is painful. Pain and pleasure, both equally illusory, are ego devices that reinforce the identification with the body. With healing, we are opening up to the present moment. Through miracle working, we are focusing our mind on the present. Desire leads the way, not our own preparation or works. The spiritual journey is simply giving up compromise, and being a miracle worker is simply giving up all compromise.
Sickness is the ego’s fragmented perception focusing on the body, on form. There is no cure at the form level because the ego is an impossible cause. Give up searching at the form level and become clueless. Forgiveness provides the healing. God is true causation. The miracle lifts you up to the healing found in the mind.
David had an experience of sickness in which he realized that either what Jesus had taught him about the Truth was true or it was false. David chose to drop down into the Love and experienced this teaching. His symptoms disappeared and the experience changed his entire life.
