This world we see can seem very real, but, in fact, it is a dream. We may feel like we have many problems in this life such as money, relationships, jobs, family issues, addictions and all kinds of issues the ego wants us to believe we have. There is only one problem, and that is our perception. By changing our thought and belief system we can wake up from this dream world and change our perception to a happy dream. The ego would have us think that to escape the world as we see it is a very complex mission, whereas the Spirit would have us learn that it is very simple.
Use this video to find a space of questioning within yourself. “A Course in Miracles” remind the mind of wholeness. Are you a separate individual body, or are you whole, complete, unified awareness? Comparison is an ego device for maintaining the separation. People accept the world with which they’re presented. You must question the world and the core ego beliefs underneath it, such as comparison. All education in this world is based on comparison. Comparison is a defense mechanism against Love. A mystical experience is an experience of no judgment, no comparison. Desire love.
In “A Course in Miracles,” Jesus provides 365 Workbook lessons for mind training. Each lesson contains a specific thought to be used as instructed throughout the day. The ACIM daily lessons are replacement ideas for your ordinary, everyday, repetitive thoughts. Your thinking is generally stuck in the past or future. Disturbances can be approached differently through practical application of ACIM principles. As you advance in your mind training, you begin to use “The Rules for Decision” that Jesus presents in the Course (T-30.I) as a way of re-interpreting everyday occurrences.
Let’s move beyond the two extremes of indulgence and repression. Is there another way? David Hoffmeister, “A Course in Miracles” teacher, discusses the practical way of exposing and releasing the thoughts that surface in awareness as the mind undergoes the forgiveness process. Helena offers her practical experience and examples and David illustrates the metaphysics and the forgiveness process with practical metaphors.
The ego made the world. All miscreation comes from the belief in separation from God. Forgive the belief in separation. See that you have a perceptual problem. You have had a major break with reality, which is psychosis. If you’ve ever noticed the thought, “I feel crazy sometimes, what’s wrong with me?” then you are becoming aware of the insanity! You are hallucinating. Pray to the Holy Spirit to show you, convince you, of the truth.
Practical application of “A Course in Miracles” begins with a step similar to that of a twelve-step program. First you must see that there is a problem. Acknowledge your perceptual problem, your hallucination, schizophrenia, and psychosis. The mind needs healing. Expose your dark thoughts, beliefs, and interpretations and the Holy Spirit will heal them. Work through the Instrument for Peace in the book “Awakening through A Course in Miracles.”
Everything can be seen in a different way. Everything can be reinterpreted. Even distractions? Yes, even distractions! Things that seem to be distractions when used by the ego can be turned around in the mind. Give distractions to the Spirit. The Spirit can use these distractions for your own Awakening.
Everything you seem to see in form is a symbol in the dream. David Hoffmeister discusses specifics: smoking, drinking, movies, music. The ego can use a symbol like a movie or a cigarette to divert the attention of your mind. These symbols are not cause for guilt or self-criticism. They are simply symbols; reinterpreted they are seen as calls for Love.
You think that, in order to be happy, you have to make the right decisions among different options. But that is not true. As “A Course in Miracles” reminds us, all our options are actually the same: thoughts of the ego. They are of the past. Choosing among them is not the way to be happy; it just keeps you stuck. In this video, David Hoffmeister, who speaks from the Awakened Mind, shows you how to make the one real choice for lasting happiness. The ego made this world so that we would think there was choice where there is no choice. The present is not this perceptual moment where we’re all sitting around in a room. Everything perceived with the five senses is all the past.
When you feel addicted to something in the world, it feels like your actions are the problem. It seems that if you could stop or regulate the behavior, you’d be home free. You’re thoughts say, “I just need to control my behavior. But how?” The main addiction of the mind is judgment. But the mind wasn’t created to judge; it was created to “be.” So trying to control it, on any level, doesn’t work. At some point, you’ll have to do a major mind “overhaul,” and look at all thoughts about cause and effect.
Thinking that you would be better off if only something or somebody would change is what prevents you from being alive in the present. Hypothetical thinking has never brought you peace of mind. How can it possibly serve you when the mind is asleep and stuck in a world of hypotheticals? Yet this is the addiction of the world and is the only way the ego knows how to think. Truth is simple and there is a way to cut through all this complexity. The Holy Spirit gives us direction through the day.
