First find the true Joy in life, then transcendence is a given. Light experiences are pure revelation and unspeakable in terms of language and form. From fragmentation to wholeness, the universe is literally reinterpreted and transcended. Here, there is no individual “I.” When we see the meaninglessness of this world, it is literally “game over” for the ego, which is, of course, terrifying to it. All time is “sucked out” of perception when we truly allow “all things to be exactly as they are.”
When you’re doing the work and fulfilling God’s plan for salvation, there’s never a sense of overload. You can do all things you’re asked to do. “A Course in Miracles” says, “It cannot be that it is hard to do the task that Christ appointed you to do, since it is He Who does it.” (T-25.I.1) That is the easiest thing in the world. You don’t need to do anything. Christ does it through you and for you. There can be no overwhelm in that. Only when you think you are the doer of these works will you feel fatigue. Paying attention to how you feel is crucial. It will show you when you are being self-dependent or Christ-dependent. When you are emotionally dependent on Christ, what more could you need?
Find inspiration! There are many different ways of expression, many different ways to extend. Tap into the question, “where is my glee? My joy?” Let these questions carry you down the runway towards lift-off. Know that Spirit will use everything to take you home, even your preferences. Let Spirit use your unique likes and dislikes in a way that will lift you up beyond all identification with the ego. You don’t have to hide your ego preferences.
Awareness of dreaming is your function! Through “A Course in Miracles,” Jesus is teaching a state of mind: awareness of dreaming. In this state of mind, you look on the dream as a dream without needing to fix or improve it. You are aware that a plane crash into the ocean is the same as a walk in California on a sunny day; a dream is a dream is a dream. There is no difference. This state of mind doesn’t even feel stuck in the dream! It is more like a lucid dream. This is a dream!
There are no private thoughts. Any thoughts that you believe are private are not real. They are meaningless. ACIM daily lessons ask you to practice this early on in your training with lesson eight, “my mind is preoccupied with past thoughts,” and ten, “my thoughts do not mean anything.” The first step in healing is to let all of the emotions up, whether you label them bad or good. Talk about them. Imagine how much faster your relationships would heal if you were open to sharing your emotions. It’s the fastest way to undo the egoic people-pleasing pattern!
The ego can even misuse the idea of “opening up” to the experience of guidance. There has been so much abuse in the name of Christianity that we are left with a bad taste in our mouths concerning churches and theological principles/practices. We may even be dissatisfied with religion altogether. This is a journey of “unlearning,” washing our minds free of all concepts—even the ones we thought of as “good.”
