Is storytelling good or bad? The ego made up all the stories, and will use storytelling to justify emotions and to reinforce the personality identity. Yet stories can also be used by the Spirit to heal and bless. The real question to ask is, “What is the point, the purpose, of the story?” Just as Jesus only told stories that had a clear point and purpose to them, so too should we be equally mindful as to why we are telling a story.
Linear time is a distraction device, which keeps the mind from being still. The ego loves the race, the drama, and the story, or linear time. The ego wants to justify any feeling of hurt or anger that you have. It projects the cause into a story that you tell yourself. And with the cause projected into a story, you cannot see what the true cause is.
If you are aware of this distraction pattern in your mind, you can move in a different direction. You can break the pattern, even if it is very strongly ingrained.
“I think it’s also important to be very non-compromising in this. Once you see something as a pattern, and there’s been an ‘enjoyment’ with it … it’s like starting to say, ‘Well, I really have to vow to just let any stories be used to heal and to bless. If I’m going to tell ANY story, it HAS to be to heal and to bless, and NOT to be about maintaining a personality identity or trying to polish and adore another personality identity.”
