It’s part of our programing to seek for safety. Do you ever have that feeling of searching for the perfect little cocoon to shelter you from dangers of the world? You think, I want to feel safe, removed from all this chaos and craziness. Maybe it’s a person who will keep you safe; the perfect partner! Maybe it’s financial security, a piece of land, or some kind of insurance. Once you have that, you’ll be safe, and the world can fall apart around you!
In A Course in Miracles, Jesus teaches you that this perceptual world is coming from an idea of guilt. You can’t find a safe haven in a storm of guilt. You’ve got to have your perception cleared. What does this mean? You are asked to question the way you’ve been raised to see the world!
Science traditionally teaches that there are independent human bodies, and each body can sense the outside world through seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, and smelling. A Course in Miracles teaches that you are mind, and that the bodies eyes are more like projectors than receptors. The body and the world are a part of the projection.
That is why the only solution is in the mind.
As long as you have ego beliefs and attack thoughts, you will see a world of fragmentation and victimization, drawing forth witnesses to what you believe and think.
There is no safety to be found on a battleground. There will never be a point when the character in the dream finds its safe part of the dream. You can’t find a safe place in the perceptual world. There is no such thing as finding safety with a certain partner, creating a little nest or cocoon for yourself.
“You don’t respond to anything directly in the world, you always respond to your perception of what you are seeing. It’s important to start to see that the interpretation is not apart from the image. What we are told and shown in the Workbook is ‘My thoughts are images that I have made.’ (W-15) Projection makes perception and what you perceive is just a motion picture of what you believe.”
