The Awakening process is humbling until you reach the state of complete non-judgment: I do not know what this is and I will not use my past learning to judge it. I am going to accept it as it is. Pristine innocence. Forgiveness is only necessary when there has been judgment. David Hoffmeister tells the story of being humbled as he took the journey of using the ACIM daily lessons. The floor seems to drop out from beneath you.
“Every time you think you’ve been humbled and you go a little farther, what happens? The floor drops out from under you! I’m lying down in humility and you feel this shaking going on, and the floor drops! It’s called the pride free fall. You just keep free-falling. The doors just keep on opening on this journey, until—the state of non judgment: I do not know what this is, and I will not use my past learning to judge it. It’s safety.”
There is safety when you realize that you do not know. When you have an experience of stillness in the present moment, there is ease. You do not worry. You relax. All you need is willingness. The Holy Spirit waits on your willingness and then rushes in to help you on your journey.
The ACIM daily lessons can act like a torch leading you through your day. Jesus takes your hand and leads you as if you are a child. As you relinquish control in your mind over to your higher source, the Spirit can do all things through you.
This is what athletes, musicians, and artists experience when they are in “the zone.” Time seems to slow down. They are “done through,” instead of feeling that they are actively doing something. David shares that a friend of his had the experience of being done through when she took tests at school. If she was connected, she did not have to work to do well on the test. She just had to get into the zone!
