Trust
Trust and Unlearning the World
David Hoffmeister shares about how he was guided to start traveling around 1991 and how that was a big lesson in trust. There are many sections in A Course in Miracles (ACIM) which state that if we trust, everything we seem to need will be taken care of. This world is layer upon layer of much ado about nothing and it all has to be unlearned. ACIM is a course in unlearning. You have to empty your mind. While you still believe there is time and space to move through, you will be guided gently, easily, and gracefully.
The Ego World and God
Beliefs only arose with the separation and hence are of the domain of the ego. God doesn’t know of this world because it doesn’t exist. But forgiveness is inspired by God and is the only way out.
Let It Be Given
Letting go of control and letting everything be given by Spirit is a radical life change. It is as radical as learning to breath liquid oxygen. You will experience periods of disorientation and come out soaring. The Course prepares you for being miracle-minded, even helping you remove the special relationship. Every miracle reinforces the awareness that life is but a dream.
True Generosity
True generosity is the opposite of how it is perceived in the world and cannot be defined in material terms. A true teacher of God does not want anything that cannot be given away as everything that is given away is strengthened in himself.
Introductory Talk, Part 1
David welcomes a group at the start of a weekend retreat and gives an overview of the spiritual journey. Topics include: removing grievances, judgments, and attack thoughts from the mind and being grateful; placing faith in the Holy Spirit to find peace of mind; the nature of problems; stepping back and opening to guidance/intuition.
Commitment and Awakening
As the ego mind has no idea of what commitment is, the Holy Spirit must introduce you to this idea. Hear David’s lucid account of the role commitment plays in the process of awakening to Spirit.
Defenses and the Fear of Love
It is difficult to understand what it means to be afraid of love. We are defending a self-concept that was made to take the place of love. What is being defended is a false identity. The goal is to uncover everything the mind is identified with in this world with the goal of seeing it all as the same. It is a helpful use of time to look at what we are identified with. Defensiveness is a good clue and is a great opportunity for true forgiveness. It is a journey of discovery to find everything that is not the truth, exposing the ego. Healing is all-encompassing.
Thoughts and Actions
What we do follows from what we think. We must become consistent and clear in our thought processes in order for our actions to flow clearly from them. When we think of them as not connected, there is not a sense of harmony. This whole world is the “Pinocchio” syndrome. Human beings believe that they are autonomous people. We have to start to acknowledge the invisible strings and conditions. There is a very direct connection between action and thought. It seems invisible because the ego belief is that we have minds, thoughts, and bodies of our own which all support the belief that we are autonomous individuals.
Apparent Changes in “Life’s Script” Are Not Accidental
Since nothing is accidental, it can never be said that change is real. You cannot say, “that wasn’t supposed to happen,” for instance. To say “the script is written,” means simply that all of perception is about the past. The future, too, is just a deceptive loop of ego thought. The future is not different from the past. All choices in this world are the same choice. Find out what is truly different. In fact, free will does not involve choice. There is no choice in Oneness. Ask only, in every situation, “What is this for?” The purpose you give anything is your only choice.
