Be authentic with your feelings, and when anger arises, welcome it. Jesus never says you should not be angry, only that it is never justified! In other words, do not try to justify your anger using external causes (i.e. being mistreated, seeing others mistreated, etc.) Attempting to justify why you feel angry will only put you into an unhappy loop. Instead, practice pausing and reminding yourself that, as Lesson 5 says, “I am never upset for the reason I think”. Ask for Help of Him Who knows you truly, and give your anger to Him. Share your mind with Jesus and/or the Holy Spirit, and let your mind be healed for you. “Anger could never occur unless you believed you were mistreated by something not yourself. If you were mistreated by something outside of you, that’s the condition for anger. And Jesus knows that there is nothing out there forcing you to be angry so that’s why he’s saying, ‘Just don’t justify it.’”
The Spirit will unwind our mind from all the sexual repression and denial that has gone on, and it will use symbols in a highly individualized way depending on each person’s patterns. For example, one who has been very sexually promiscuous in the past may very well be Guided to be celibate for a time. On the other hand, one who has repressed their sexuality may be Guided to start having more sexual experiences which undo old ideas about what sexuality means. In either case…
Love is inevitable! You can’t mess it up! As you go beneath the ego sugarcoating you can expect to become self-critical. The ACIM healing process is lead by the Spirit. The ego doesn’t know the way to the light; it doesn’t want to get to the light. Let the Holy Spirit lead the way. You are here to clear the underlying ontological guilt. Let the Holy Spirit guide you and unwind you in the process of regaining your happiness.
Accept yourself! What is your true Identity? When you identify with a body, with a past, with a memory, or untrue thought, it seems impossible to see your complete innocence. But you are not a small limited part of an objective time-space world, you are everywhere. Accept yourself as everywhere. You have to take responsibility for sight before you can use the idea in ACIM daily lesson 61, ‘I am the light of the world.’
It’s part of our programing to seek for safety. Do you ever have that feeling of searching for the perfect, safe place to shelter you from dangers of the world? You think, “I want to feel safe, removed from all this chaos and craziness.” Maybe it’s a person who will keep you safe, maybe it’s financial security, a career, or retirement. Maybe it’s a piece of land, or some kind of insurance. Once you have that, you’ll be safe, and the world can fall apart around you!
Does it feel like you carry shameful sexual thoughts or guilty secrets? If you would know the holy instant, you have to have a willingness to hide nothing. Let’s get everything up and out and not have anything pushed down and repressed. This is for the whole universe! It’s important not to single out certain subjects and topics as better or more embarrassing or shameful than others. Anything that’s blocking the light needs to be released. Whether we talk about awkward thoughts or seemingly shameful thoughts, it’s the belief they are true where the guilt comes in.
Are you holding on to the belief in sacrifice? The ego-mind believes that sacrifice is possible. When you practice having the awareness that everything is mind, this belief in sacrifice comes up into question. How could sacrifice be real, if everything is mind? This questioning is an opportunity for a resurrection in the mind! Holding on to a belief is what gives seeming life to an identity that is separate from the Love of God. Therefore your true identity seems covered over by this belief, much like a cloud covers the sun.
What thoughts and beliefs are running your life? Do you think you need to act a certain way and say the right things in order to be loved? Do you think something bad will happen if you actually follow your heart? These people-pleasing mechanisms can be released when their underlying beliefs and assumptions are held […]
The ego’s identity is very shaky! It is constantly searching for approval from the world. Notice when you are tempted to use people-pleasing in order to feel liked, or feel good about yourself. The only way that you can be free of people-pleasing is to get down to your underlying beliefs and assumptions. These beliefs are underneath the stream of thoughts that happen on the surface of your everyday life. You get a lot of opportunities on a daily basis to let the Spirit help you navigate your mind and the world that is projected from your mind!
In traditional Christianity the cost of man’s eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is death. You did something wrong to God and must pay a ransom. Jesus, the innocent one, was crucified and the ransom was paid. Belief in the ego costs you the awareness of God. The wages of error (missing the truth) is the illusion of suffering.
